Founded in 1988, under the directorship of Prof. Clarence W. de Silva to support the NSERC-BC Packers Chair in Industrial Automation, IAL carries out research and development in the following areas:
- Intelligent Control
- Robotics including Multi-robot Cooperation
- Process Automation
- Control System Instrumentation (Sensors and Actuators)
- Mechatronics including Evolutionary Design
- Machine Health Monitoring
