Message from the director

Clarence De Silva

Welcome to the web site of the UBC Applied Science Research Centre (ASRC). The centre was established in 2004 primarily to encourage, promote and facilitate collaborative research, education, and other professional activities between the Faculty of Applied Science of the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Faculties of Engineering and Science of the National University of Singapore (NUS). Through this Centre, interactions have taken place between faculty members and other researchers of UBC and NUS and their respective partners in industry, research institutes, and other universities. Collaborative activities include research and development, technology transfer, and training of highly qualified personnel. Seminars, workshops, symposia, outreach and exchange programs and other activities of knowledge dissemination have taken place, and the book: MECHATRONIC SYSTEMS, CRC Press/Taylor & Francis, Boca Raton, FL, 2008, has been published, which highlights some of the key research and development of the Centre.

With the inception of Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Mechatronics and Automation, the activities of the Centre have been targeted mainly on the International collaborations through this Chair. New collaborations have been established with the Pennsylvania State University, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, Open University of Sri Lanka, and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Pertinent information is provided at this site, and regularly updated. If you need further information or wish to initiate a collaborative activity please contact us.
