Dr. Farrokh Sassani

Dr. Farrokh Sassani is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, where he has been the graduate advisor for seven years and the Assistant Head of the department since July 2000. He joined UBC in 1982. His teaching areas are mechanics of materials, manufacturing processes, industrial engineering, and systems modeling and simulation. His research interests include design, automation, manufacturing systems and production control.

 

Dr. Sassani obtained his Ph.D. from University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK in 1980. In 1985 he received Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award from the American Society of Automotive Engineers in recognition of significant contributions to teaching, research and student development. In 1994 he received the industrial visiting fellowship from Advanced Systems Institute of British Columbia. Dr. Sassani is on the Advisory Boards of the Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering and the International Journal: Scientia Iranica, and is an Associate Editor for International Journal of Control and Intelligent Systems. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of British Columbia, Life Fellow of the British Institute of Manufacturing and a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
