Welcome
Welcome to the Home Page of the Acoustics and Noise Research Group of the University of British Columbia. This group is directed by Professor Murray Hodgson in the School of Environmental Health and the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Acoustics is the study of sound, its generation, propagation, interaction with obstacles, and its effects on people. Noise is unwanted sound, whether in the workplace or in community environments.
Our objective is to optimize acoustical environments to the benefit of the health, safety, education, well-being and comfort of people. This involves Ecological and Engineering Acoustics Research (EARS). The objective is being achieved by the theoretical and experimental study of sound and its effects, and by the development of prediction tools, measurment techniques, control measures and strategies.
