Visiting Graduate Research Students

1) Visiting Scholars

Visiting Scholars are graduate students who require internship or research experience at another university prior to completion of their degree. The student must currently registered and in good standing at another recognized university, and coming to UBC Department of Mechanical Engineering for research purposes only . The work period forms part of the practical training requirements at the student's home institution.  During their appointment time, the students assist with research projects done by faculty members. It is expected that the students will return to their home university or institution after the visit.

All visiting scholars are by invitation only . Students are typically accepted by faculty members through programs/ agreements with international institutions, or by personal recommendation of colleagues at other institutions. We normally do not consider applications without a strong recommendation through one of these channels. Visiting scholars are not eligible to take classes at UBC. In the case of citizens or permanent residents of Canada, the position may be paid or unpaid. If you have questions, please contact the Secretary to the Head (tsui@mech.ubc.ca).
