Welcome to the Thermofluids Option!
Planes, boats, and clean energy technology. Society is always moving, and we're the ones who move it. Whether you are interested in moving people on ships or aircraft, or you are passionate about moving society as a whole to cleaner energy, the Thermofluids Option can help you get ready for your future. Processes, pipelines, heating and air conditioning... it's all here. And the job prospects are pretty good, too.
The Thermofluids Option is designed to let students with a passion for Thermofluids concentrate their studies in the area. Several core courses are substituted with Thermofluids-specific courses, and a number of electives allow students to delve deeper into specific topics of interest.
Education is not just academics, however, and the option allows students to get out of the classroom. Students are expected to enroll in co-op, and are encouraged to find work placements complementary to their studies. Many Thermofluids students also join student teams, working on the UBC Aerodesign Heavy Lift aircraft, the SUBC Human Powered Submarine, the Sailbot Remote Yacht, the SAE Supermileage car, or the Formula SAE racecar. The benefits of participation in these extracurricular activities go beyond technical skills - student teams also allow you to learn valuable leadership, teamwork and project planning skills.
