Mech 2
Mech 2 is the cornerstone program of the UBC Mechanical Engineering Department and a revolutionary way to think about undergraduate education. It goes far beyond classes and exams to include all areas of personal and professional development needed to become a successful engineer.
Curriculum
Rather than taking six or seven concurrent courses per term, students in the Mech 2 program take four consecutive courses over the entire year. A team of enthusiastic instructors teaches each course and carefully develops the curriculum to create an integrated learning experience. Rather than studying each academic subject separately, students learn the principles of mechanical engineering in a practical context. Classes are supported by small-group tutorials, question and answer sessions with professors, labs, projects and field trips.
Testimonials
Our students put it best: “I love the personal interaction with professors, TAs, other staff and a broad range of students. On the whole, we are one of the most co-operative groups at the University. Comparing Mech 2 to my experience in science puts this into perspective. I usually didn't attend class in science because there was no real incentive and not much social interaction. In Mech 2, the support network is amazing and the training is unique and powerful.” - Former Mech 2 student.
