Adjunct Teaching Opportunity - Machine Shop Practice


The UBC Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a an individual with machine shop and teaching experience to assist with the delivery of an introductory machining short course for Mechanical Engineering students, as a component of the second year Technical Skills Practicum (MECH 220).  This is a team-teaching opportunity, full time for six weeks from August 16, 2010 to September 24, 2010.  Principal duties will be to assist the Machine Shop Lecturer with the supervision and direction of approximately 32 students in class each week.


In addition to relevant teaching experience, the successful candidate will have practical experience with set-up and operation of manual lathes, milling and drilling machinery, proper use of hand tools, work layout and the ability to read and interpret detail and assembly drawings. The ability to communicate clearly, orally in English and demonstrable knowledge of current Occupational Health and Safety regulations are essential. Engineering and industry experience will be considered assets.
