Mandatory Course Registration

MASc. /PhD. students in MECH:

All MECH students are required to register in Thesis course all year around (both winter/summer terms) and Seminar course in each winter term. You must give one seminar each year, and you are expected to attend all seminars given by students in your research group.

Note:
Continuing students normally register in the full session section of the course (Term 1-2); Term 1 or Term 2 sections may be used by new students arriving at other than usual registration periods, or by students nearing completion of their studies. These students should contact the graduate secretary for advice in choosing the correct section.

MASc. /PhD. students in BMEG:

All Biomedical Engineering Program students are required to attend two seminar courses. Along with the department seminar courses, please register for APSC seminar. You’re also required to register for APSC thesis course (instead of MECH course). Please consult with the Biomedical Engineering Office for further details.

Important: It is your responsibility to maintain appropriate registration record in both winter and summer sessions. In order to maintain full time and continuing status in the program, You MUST continue to register for your thesis course (MASc. and PhD students) or project course (MEng. student) until program completion.

Failure to do this may affect your eligibility for Awards and Bursary. Also it may cause a potential taxation impact. DO NOT miss a registration session.

 

MECH 598, 698 Departmental Regulations:

1. Registration in MECH 598/698 is restricted to and mandatory for graduate students enrolled in MASc/PhD program.

2. Each student registered in these courses is required to give oral presentations based upon their research work. One such presentation is required for every academic year the student is enrolled in their MASc/PhD.

3. Four separate seminars will be held in the course, involving:
(i) Applied mechanics and Design group
(ii) Fluids, Naval Architecture, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer group
(iii) Mechatronics and Manufacturing group
(iv) Biomedical Engineering group
Faculties in each group will be organizing and running of their own seminars.

4. Each student is required to attend all of the seminars presented in their research group.

5. Marks will be assigned for each seminar completed but credit and a final mark will not be given until the program completion. 

6. Credit for the course will be based upon the oral presentations with 30% of the marks allocated for presentation style and 70% for technical content.

These grades will be determined by consultation between the Faculty present at the seminar.
Attendance records are kept.
If less than 80% of the seminars are attended a 5% grade penalty will be assessed for each seminar missed below this quota.
